How To Get Testosterone Tested?

Schedule an appointment with a primary care doctor, urologist, or endocrinologist

Ask for a total testosterone blood test

Ask whether free testosterone, SHBG, LH, FSH, prolactin, and estradiol should also be checked

Get the blood draw done in the morning, usually between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m.

Follow any fasting instructions given by the clinic or lab

Avoid heavy exercise, alcohol, and illness-related testing if possible before the test

Repeat the test on a different morning if the first result is low

Review the results with the ordering clinician

Ask about next steps if symptoms are present or results are abnormal
