Gather the pill, a towel, and a small treat or water
Wash your hands
Calmly approach your cat
Wrap your cat in a towel if needed, leaving the head exposed
Hold the cat securely but gently
Tilt the cat’s head slightly upward
Open the lower jaw with one hand
Place the pill as far back on the tongue as possible
Close the mouth and hold it shut briefly
Gently rub the throat or blow lightly on the nose to encourage swallowing
Offer a small amount of water if appropriate
Give a treat afterward
Check that the pill was swallowed
Ask your veterinarian if the pill can be crushed, hidden in food, or given in a different form
