How to Gold Leaf a Book Cover?
Gather gold leaf sheets, size/adhesive, soft brush, gilding brush, burnisher, craft knife, masking tape, and a clean cloth
Remove dust and dirt from the book cover
Mask off any areas you do not want gilded
Apply a thin, even layer of size/adhesive to the desired cover area
Wait until the adhesive reaches the proper tackiness according to the product instructions
Lay the gold leaf gently onto the tacky area
Press lightly with a soft brush or cotton pad to help it adhere
Continue applying leaf sheets with slight overlap until the area is covered
Let the adhesive dry fully
Brush away excess loose leaf with a soft brush
Burnish the gold leaf lightly if desired
Seal the finished surface with a compatible clear protective coating if needed
Remove masking tape carefully
Handle the cover gently until fully cured
