Preheat the gas grill to medium-high heat, about 400°F to 450°F
Clean and oil the grill grates
Pound chicken breasts to an even thickness
Pat the chicken breasts dry
Season with salt, pepper, and any desired spices or marinade
Lightly oil the chicken breasts
Place the chicken on the grill over direct heat
Close the lid and grill for 5 to 7 minutes
Flip the chicken breasts
Grill for another 5 to 7 minutes with the lid closed
Check for an internal temperature of 165°F
Move the chicken to indirect heat if it browns too quickly
Remove the chicken from the grill
Let the chicken rest for 5 minutes before serving
