Eat or remove the cherry flesh from the pit
Rinse the pit thoroughly
Let the pit dry for a day or two
Place the pit in a damp paper towel
Put the paper towel in a sealed plastic bag
Refrigerate the bag for 10 to 14 weeks
Check occasionally to keep the towel slightly moist
Remove pits that mold or rot
Plant sprouted pits in small pots with well-draining soil
Cover each pit about 1 inch deep
Keep the soil moist but not soggy
Place pots in a sunny, warm location
Wait for seedlings to emerge
Transplant seedlings outdoors after the last frost
Choose a site with full sun and well-drained soil
Space trees far enough apart for mature growth
Water regularly during the first growing season
Protect young trees from pests and harsh weather
Be patient, since fruiting can take several years
