Choose a healthy, disease-free rose stem
Cut a 6 to 8 inch section from a current-season stem
Make the cut just below a leaf node
Remove flowers, buds, and most leaves
Keep 2 to 3 leaves at the top if present
Dip the cut end in rooting hormone
Fill a pot with moist, well-draining potting mix
Make a hole in the soil with a pencil or stick
Insert the cutting into the hole
Firm the soil around the cutting
Water lightly to settle the soil
Cover the pot with a clear plastic bag or dome
Keep the cutting in bright, indirect light
Maintain warm temperatures
Keep the soil consistently moist, not soggy
Vent the cover occasionally to reduce mold
Check for root growth after several weeks
Tug gently to test for resistance
Transplant the cutting once roots are established
Harden off the new plant before moving it outdoors
Plant in a sunny location with good drainage
