How To Jumpstart A Car?

Park both cars close enough for jumper cables to reach, without touching

Turn off the ignition in both cars and set parking brakes

Identify battery terminals: positive (+) and negative (−)

If batteries are in separate compartments, ensure you can access both terminals safely

Connect one end of the red (positive) clamp to the dead battery’s + terminal

Connect the other end of the red (positive) clamp to the live battery’s + terminal

Connect one end of the black (negative) clamp to the live battery’s − terminal

Connect the other end of the black (negative) clamp to an unpainted metal surface on the dead car’s engine block (or a designated grounding point), not directly to the − terminal

Start the live car and let it run for 2–5 minutes

Attempt to start the dead car

If it doesn’t start, wait 1–2 minutes and try again once

Once the dead car starts, keep both cars running for a few minutes

Disconnect cables in reverse order:

Remove black clamp from the grounded metal surface on the dead car

Remove black clamp from the live battery − terminal

Remove red clamp from the live battery + terminal

Remove red clamp from the dead battery + terminal

Drive the dead car for at least 20–30 minutes to help recharge the battery

If the car still won’t start, stop and seek roadside assistance or professional help
