Choose a healthy, disease-free rose stem
Cut a 6 to 8 inch section from a stem with at least 3 to 5 leaf nodes
Make the bottom cut just below a node at a 45-degree angle
Make the top cut just above a node straight across
Remove flowers, buds, and most leaves
Keep only the top one or two sets of leaves
Dip the bottom end in rooting hormone
Fill a pot with moist, well-draining potting mix
Make a hole in the soil with a pencil or stick
Insert the cutting about 2 to 3 inches deep
Firm the soil around the cutting
Water lightly
Cover the cutting with a clear plastic bag or humidity dome
Keep the cutting in bright, indirect light
Keep the soil moist but not soggy
Vent the cover occasionally to prevent mold
Check for roots after 4 to 8 weeks
Gently tug the cutting to test for resistance
Transplant the cutting once strong roots form
Harden off the new plant before moving it outdoors
Plant in a sunny spot with well-draining soil
