How To Hang A Ceiling Fan?

Turn off power at the circuit breaker

Verify the power is off with a voltage tester

Remove the existing light fixture or old fan

Check that the electrical box is rated for ceiling fan support

Replace the box if it is not fan-rated

Assemble the ceiling fan parts according to the manufacturer’s instructions

Install the mounting bracket to the electrical box

Feed the fan wires through the canopy and downrod, if applicable

Attach the downrod or motor housing to the mounting bracket

Connect the wires: black to black, white to white, green or bare to ground

Secure all wire connections with wire nuts

Tuck the wires neatly into the electrical box

Attach the fan canopy to cover the bracket and wiring

Install the fan blades

Install the light kit, if included

Tighten all screws and hardware

Restore power at the breaker

Test the fan and light functions

Balance the blades if needed
