How to Heal a Bedsore?

Relieve pressure from the sore immediately

Reposition at least every 2 hours

Use pillows or foam cushions to keep pressure off the area

Keep the wound clean with mild soap and water or saline

Pat the area dry gently

Cover the sore with a sterile dressing

Change dressings regularly as directed by a healthcare professional

Keep skin around the sore clean and dry

Eat enough protein, calories, vitamins, and fluids

Check the sore daily for redness, swelling, drainage, or odor

Do not massage the sore or surrounding red skin

Do not use harsh antiseptics, hydrogen peroxide, or iodine unless instructed

Use pressure-relieving mattresses or cushions if available

Seek medical care for deep sores, fever, pus, worsening pain, or spreading redness
