Reposition at least every 2 hours
Use pillows or cushions to offload pressure
Keep the skin clean and dry
Clean the sore gently with saline or mild soap and water
Pat the area dry; do not rub
Cover the sore with a suitable dressing
Change dressings as directed by a clinician
Keep surrounding skin protected from moisture
Eat enough protein, calories, vitamins, and fluids
Treat pain as directed by a healthcare professional
Avoid massaging the sore or bony area
Do not use harsh antiseptics unless prescribed
Watch for signs of infection
Seek medical care for deep, worsening, or infected sores
Get urgent care for fever, foul odor, pus, spreading redness, or black tissue
Work with a wound-care specialist if the sore is not improving
