Apply a cold compress wrapped in cloth for 10–15 minutes at a time, several times a day for the first 24–48 hours
Keep your head elevated, especially when resting or sleeping
Avoid pressure or rubbing on the eye
Use acetaminophen for pain if needed
Avoid aspirin and ibuprofen in the first 24 hours if swelling or bleeding is a concern
Switch to warm compresses after 48 hours to help reduce bruising
Rest and avoid strenuous activity
Protect the eye from further injury with sunglasses or a shield if needed
Do not blow your nose forcefully
Seek medical care if you have vision changes, severe pain, worsening swelling, blood in the eye, vomiting, dizziness, or a possible fracture
