Wash your hands
Clean the blister gently with soap and water
Do not pop it if possible
Cover it with a hydrocolloid blister bandage
If a bandage is not available, use a sterile nonstick dressing
Keep the area clean and dry
Reduce pressure and friction on the blister
Wear roomy shoes or avoid the activity that caused it
Elevate the area if it is on a foot or hand
Apply a cold pack wrapped in cloth for 10 to 15 minutes at a time
If it breaks, leave the skin flap in place
Apply petroleum jelly or antibiotic ointment if the skin is open
Change the dressing daily or when wet or dirty
Seek medical care if there is increasing redness, warmth, swelling, pus, fever, or severe pain
