Stop shaving, waxing, or plucking the area until it heals
Clean the area gently with mild soap and water
Apply a warm compress for 10 to 15 minutes, several times a day
Gently exfoliate the skin with a soft washcloth or mild scrub
Avoid picking, squeezing, or digging at the ingrown hair
Use a clean, sterile needle or tweezers only if the hair tip is visible at the surface

Wear loose clothing to reduce friction
Keep the area dry and clean
Seek medical care if there is severe pain, spreading redness, pus, fever, or repeated ingrown hairs
