Clean the metal thoroughly
Select the correct tungsten, filler rod, and shielding gas
Set the machine to AC for aluminum or DC for steel and stainless steel
Grind the tungsten to the proper point or shape
Secure the workpiece and attach the ground clamp
Set the gas flow rate
Hold the torch at the correct angle
Start the arc without touching the tungsten to the work
Maintain a short arc length
Add filler rod steadily as needed
Move the torch smoothly along the joint
Keep the weld pool protected with shielding gas
Stop the arc and continue gas flow briefly to shield the cooling weld
Inspect the weld for defects
Clean the finished weld if necessary
