Gather the door knob set, latch, strike plate, screws, screwdriver, and drill if needed
Remove the old door knob if one is installed
Insert the latch into the edge hole of the door with the beveled side facing the door frame
Secure the latch with the provided screws
Align the exterior knob or handle with the latch mechanism
Insert the spindle or connecting shaft through the latch
Attach the interior knob or handle to the opposite side
Tighten all mounting screws evenly
Install the strike plate on the door frame if needed
Test the knob to make sure it turns and the latch retracts smoothly
Adjust the latch, screws, or strike plate if the door does not close properly
