How To Install Bathtub Faucet?

Turn off the water supply valves to the bathtub (hot and cold).

Open the bathtub faucet handles to relieve pressure.

Protect the tub surface with a towel or blanket.

Remove the old faucet handle(s) and trim:

Locate set screws or retaining clips.

Remove handles, escutcheon/trim plate, and any mounting hardware.

Disconnect the supply lines from the shutoff valves or existing plumbing connections.

Remove the old faucet body/spout (as applicable) and clean the mounting area.

Inspect and replace damaged supply lines, shutoff valves, or any worn seals.

Verify rough-in dimensions match the new faucet:

Confirm spacing, stem types (if applicable), and pipe sizes.

Install the new faucet body:

Apply plumber’s tape or pipe sealant to threaded connections (as required by the faucet instructions).

Seat O-rings/gaskets where required.

Tighten mounting hardware securely.

Connect hot and cold supply lines to the correct inlet ports:

Ensure hot is connected to the hot side and cold to the cold side.

Tighten connections firmly without overtightening.

If the system uses a diverter/transfer valve, install and connect it per the manufacturer instructions.

Install the spout and/or trim:

Align spout correctly over the tub opening.

Secure trim plate/escutcheon and tighten set screws.

Install handles:

Attach handles to stems.

Set handle positions to match hot/cold orientation.

Tighten set screws.

Check for leaks:

Turn water supply valves back on.

Run hot and cold water and inspect all connections and around the trim.

Adjust temperature/handle limits (if equipped):

Set stops or cartridge limits to achieve desired hot/cold range.

Test operation:

Verify spout flow and any diverter function (hand shower vs tub spout, if included).

Re-check tightness after the first test run.

Clean up and remove protective covering.
