Select a location on the ceiling or high on the wall
Keep the detector away from vents, fans, and corners
Mark the mounting holes using the bracket
Drill holes if needed and install anchors
Attach the mounting bracket securely
Connect the wiring to the detector if it is hardwired
Match the wires correctly and secure all connections
Insert batteries if it is battery-powered
Attach the detector to the mounting bracket
Restore power to the circuit
Test the detector using the test button
Confirm the alarm sounds properly
Install detectors on every required level and area
Replace batteries and test the detector regularly
