Keep the kitten in a separate room at first
Let the kitten and cat get used to each other’s scent by swapping bedding
Feed them on opposite sides of a closed door
Let them hear and smell each other before any face-to-face meeting
Use a baby gate or cracked door for a controlled visual introduction
Keep the first meetings short
Supervise all early interactions
Reward calm behavior with treats and praise
Allow the cat to approach the kitten at its own pace
Do not force contact
Provide separate food, water, litter boxes, and resting areas
Give the cat safe spaces to escape and observe
Watch for signs of stress or aggression
Separate them and try again later if tension rises
Increase interaction time gradually
Continue supervision until they consistently behave calmly together
