How To Keep Mosquitoes Away?

Remove standing water from around your home (buckets, tires, planters, clogged gutters, birdbaths, tarps)

Keep containers tightly covered or empty when not in use

Change water in birdbaths and other outdoor water features regularly

Clean and refresh water weekly in any unavoidable outdoor containers

Use window and door screens; repair any holes or tears

Repair or seal gaps around doors, windows, vents, and plumbing penetrations

Use air conditioning when possible or keep doors closed in mosquito-heavy times

Wear long sleeves and long pants, especially at dawn and dusk

Use permethrin-treated clothing and gear (treat items according to label directions)

Apply EPA-registered insect repellent to exposed skin

Reapply repellent as directed on the product label

Use repellents containing DEET, picaridin, IR3535, oil of lemon eucalyptus (PMD), or 2-undecanone (as listed on the label)

Avoid applying repellent under clothing

Use fans outdoors since mosquitoes are weaker fliers

Use bed nets if sleeping in areas without screens or if mosquitoes are present indoors

Use mosquito netting over strollers and carriers when needed

Keep grass and weeds trimmed to reduce resting areas

Clear brush and debris near entrances and outdoor sitting areas

Consider installing or using mosquito traps only if they are appropriate for your area and local conditions

Treat outdoor areas with larvicides where standing water cannot be removed (follow local guidance and label instructions)

Follow local mosquito-control recommendations and reporting programs

Keep pets’ outdoor water clean and covered when feasible

Launder or dry-clean clothing that has been stored outdoors where mosquitoes may rest
