Open the Instagram app
Go to Direct Messages
Open the chat
Look for the “Seen” label under the last message you sent
Check for the person’s profile picture below your message, which may indicate they viewed it
If the message is in a group chat, look for “Seen by” and the names of people who viewed it
If there is no “Seen” label, the message has not been viewed yet
For disappearing messages, check whether the message status shows it was opened
Make sure read receipts are enabled, since some accounts may not show seen status in certain cases
