Measure the room and the furniture area
Choose a rug size that fits the space
Clear the floor before placing the rug
Center the rug in the room or under the main furniture
Align the rug with walls and major furniture pieces
Use a rug pad to prevent slipping
Smooth out wrinkles and folds
Place furniture partially or fully on the rug as needed
Check that the rug edges are straight
Adjust the rug until it looks balanced
Secure corners if necessary
Vacuum or clean the rug after laying it down
