Sit quietly and breathe slowly and deeply for 5 to 10 minutes

Rest in a comfortable seated position with your back supported
Avoid caffeine, nicotine, alcohol, and exercise
Drink a glass of water if you may be dehydrated
Empty your bladder
Take your prescribed blood pressure medicine exactly as directed
Recheck your blood pressure after 5 to 15 minutes of rest
Seek urgent medical help if your blood pressure is 180/120 or higher and you have chest pain, shortness of breath, severe headache, weakness, confusion, or vision changes
Call emergency services immediately if you have signs of stroke, heart attack, or severe symptoms
