Choose a large sweet onion
Peel the onion and trim the top
Leave the root end intact
Place the onion root-side down
Make one cut straight down through the center, stopping before the root
Make 3 to 4 more evenly spaced cuts around the onion, stopping before the root
Repeat between each section until the onion has 16 to 20 petals
Gently separate the petals
Mix flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, cayenne, and oregano
Whisk eggs and milk together in a separate bowl
Dip the onion in the seasoned flour
Dip the onion in the egg mixture
Coat the onion again in the seasoned flour
Heat oil to 350°F
Fry the onion root-side up until golden brown
Drain on paper towels
Serve with dipping sauce
