Move away from the heat source
Cool the burn under cool running water for 20 minutes
Remove rings, watches, or tight clothing if not stuck to the skin
Do not use ice
Do not apply butter, oil, toothpaste, or creams
Cover the burn with a clean, non-stick dressing or cling film
Keep the burned area elevated if possible
Take over-the-counter pain relief if needed and safe for you
Seek urgent medical help for large, deep, blistering, or facial burns
Call emergency services for severe burns, trouble breathing, or burns from chemicals or electricity
