Gather cotton string, scissors, salt, borax, water, and a shallow dish
Mix 1 tablespoon salt and 1 tablespoon borax into 1 cup hot water
Soak the cotton string in the solution for 24 hours
Remove the string and let it dry completely
Cut the dried string to the desired wick length
Straighten the wick before use
Dip the wick in melted wax to coat it
Let the wax-coated wick cool and harden
Trim the wick to fit the candle container or mold
Secure the wick in place before pouring wax
