Start with a square sheet of paper

Unfold it
Fold the paper in half horizontally
Unfold it
Fold the paper in half vertically
Unfold it
Bring all four corners to the center
Flip the paper over
Fold all four corners to the center again
Fold the paper in half
Fold it in half again the other way
Insert your fingers into the four pockets
Move the fortune teller open and closed to use it
