Gather ground beef, salt, pepper, hamburger buns, and any toppings you want
Shape the ground beef into a patty slightly wider than the bun
Press a small dimple in the center of the patty
Heat a skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat
Place the patty in the hot pan
Cook for 3 to 5 minutes on the first side
Flip the patty
Cook for 3 to 5 minutes on the second side
Add cheese during the last minute if desired
Check that the burger is cooked to your preferred doneness
Toast the buns in the pan if desired
Place the patty on the bun
