Wash the cucumber thoroughly
Trim the ends
Slice or leave whole, as desired
Sterilize a clean jar
Place dill, garlic, peppercorns, and any other seasonings in the jar
Pack the cucumber tightly into the jar
Combine vinegar, water, salt, and optional sugar in a pot
Heat the brine until the salt dissolves
Pour the hot brine over the cucumbers
Make sure the cucumbers are fully submerged
Seal the jar
Let it cool to room temperature
Refrigerate or process for shelf storage if properly prepared
Wait several days before eating for best flavor
