How to Make Cottage Cheese at Home?

Heat 1 quart of milk in a pot over medium heat until it reaches about 190°F

Remove from heat

Add 2 to 4 tablespoons of lemon juice or white vinegar

Stir gently for a few seconds

Let the mixture sit for 5 to 10 minutes until curds form

Line a strainer with cheesecloth and place it over a bowl

Pour the curds and whey into the strainer

Let the liquid drain for 5 to 15 minutes

Rinse the curds with cold water if desired

Gather the cheesecloth and gently squeeze out excess liquid

Transfer the curds to a bowl

Add salt to taste

Mix in a little cream or milk for a creamier texture if desired

Refrigerate and use within a few days
