Place eggs in a single layer in a saucepan
Add enough cold water to cover the eggs by 1 inch
Put the saucepan on the stove over high heat
Bring the water to a full rolling boil
Turn off the heat
Cover the pan with a lid
Let the eggs sit in the hot water for 9 to 12 minutes
Drain the hot water
Transfer the eggs to a bowl of ice water
Let the eggs cool for 5 to 10 minutes
Peel the eggs when ready to serve
