How To Make Khichdi?

Rinse 1 cup rice and 1/2 cup moong dal separately

Soak them for 15 to 20 minutes

Heat 2 tablespoons ghee or oil in a pressure cooker or pot

Add 1 teaspoon cumin seeds

Add 1 pinch asafoetida

Add 1 chopped onion if using

Add 1 chopped tomato if using

Add 1 teaspoon grated ginger

Add 1 chopped green chili if using

Add 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder

Add salt to taste

Add the soaked rice and dal

Add 4 to 5 cups water

Mix well

Close the pressure cooker and cook for 3 to 4 whistles

If using a pot, cook until rice and dal are soft, stirring occasionally

Add more water if needed for a softer consistency

Mash lightly if desired

Add chopped coriander leaves

Serve hot with ghee, pickle, or curd
