Sanitize all tools, containers, and work surfaces
Measure the water phase and oil phase separately
Heat the water phase and oil phase in separate heat-safe containers until both are hot
Combine the heated water phase and oil phase
Blend until the mixture becomes smooth and creamy
Let the lotion cool while stirring occasionally
Add preservative and optional essential oil after cooling
Mix thoroughly
Pour into a clean container
Seal and store in a cool, dry place
