Heat 2 tablespoons olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat
Add 2 to 3 minced garlic cloves and cook for 30 seconds
Pour in 1 can tomato sauce
Stir in 1 teaspoon dried oregano
Stir in 1 teaspoon dried basil
Add 1/2 teaspoon salt
Add 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Add 1/2 teaspoon sugar if needed
Simmer for 15 to 20 minutes, stirring occasionally
Taste and adjust seasoning
Add chopped fresh parsley or basil if desired
