Let chops sit at room temperature for 15 to 20 minutes
Heat a skillet over medium-high heat
Add a small amount of oil or butter to the skillet
Place pork chops in the hot skillet
Cook without moving until browned on the first side
Flip the chops
Cook the second side until browned and cooked through
Reduce heat if needed to prevent burning
Add butter, garlic, or herbs during the last minute if desired
Spoon pan juices over the chops
Remove from heat
Let rest for a few minutes before serving
