Add 2 to 3 tablespoons of oil to a large pot with a lid
Heat the pot over medium heat
Add 2 to 3 popcorn kernels to the oil
Cover the pot
Wait until the test kernels pop
Add enough popcorn kernels to make a single layer in the pot
Cover the pot again
Shake the pot gently over the heat every few seconds
Listen for the popping to slow down
Remove the pot from the heat when the popping is about 2 seconds apart
Lift the lid carefully
Pour the popcorn into a bowl
Add salt or other seasoning if desired
