Chill a mixing bowl and beaters for 10 to 15 minutes
Add 1 cup heavy whipping cream to the bowl
Add 2 to 4 tablespoons powdered sugar
Add 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Beat on medium-high speed until soft peaks form
Beat a little longer until stiff peaks form
Use immediately or refrigerate until needed
Spread or pipe onto cooled cake or cupcakes
