Wash and dry your hands
Prepare a blood glucose meter, test strip, and lancet
Insert the test strip into the meter
Use the lancet to prick the side of your fingertip
Gently squeeze to get a small drop of blood
Touch the blood drop to the test strip
Wait for the meter to display the result
Record the reading with the date and time
Dispose of the used lancet and strip safely
