Turn off the fan and let it stop completely
Measure from the tip of one blade to the tip of the opposite blade
If the fan has an odd number of blades, measure across the widest span from one blade tip to the farthest opposite point
Record the measurement in inches or centimeters
Use the blade span as the fan size
For fans with a light kit or decorative parts, measure only the blades, not the fixtures
For wall-to-wall clearance, measure the room dimensions before choosing the fan size
For low ceilings, measure the ceiling height from floor to ceiling
For sloped ceilings, measure the highest and lowest points if needed
Compare the measured blade span with the manufacturer’s listed fan size
