How To Move A Grandfather Clock?

Gather moving blankets, tape, bubble wrap, packing paper, zip bags, labels, and a dolly

Clear a path from the clock to the exit

Remove the weights and label them by position

Remove the pendulum and pack it separately

Secure the chains or cables so they do not tangle

Lock or tape the clock door shut

Remove and wrap any loose decorative parts

Protect the glass and wood with moving blankets

Tape blankets in place without touching delicate finishes directly

Keep the clock upright at all times

Use at least two people to lift and carry it

Lift from the base, not the top or hood

Move slowly through doorways and stairs

Place the clock on a dolly only if it remains upright and stable

Secure the clock in the truck so it cannot shift

Transport the weights, pendulum, and clock body separately

Reassemble the clock in its new location

Rehang the pendulum and weights in the correct order

Level the clock before starting it

Check the timekeeping after setup
