Gather paint, primer, caulk, brushes, rollers, trays, drop cloths, tape, ladders, and safety gear
Protect plants, windows, fixtures, walkways, and nearby surfaces
Scrape off loose and peeling paint
Sand rough edges and glossy areas
Wash the exterior to remove dirt, mildew, and chalking
Let the surface dry completely
Repair damaged wood, gaps, holes, and cracks
Caulk seams and joints where needed
Prime bare wood, repaired areas, and stained spots
Mask off trim, windows, and edges
Paint trim first
Paint siding and large surfaces
Apply a second coat if needed
Remove tape before the paint fully cures
Clean tools and store leftover paint properly
Inspect for missed spots and touch up as needed
