Backfill with native soil and gently firm it around the roots

Water thoroughly after planting

Add mulch around the base, keeping it away from the trunk

Stake the tree only if needed for support

Prune lightly to remove damaged or crossing branches

Protect the tree from pests, deer, and lawn equipment

Fertilize only if soil tests or growth indicate a need
