Choose fresh, plump ginger rhizomes with visible buds
Soak the rhizomes in water overnight
Cut into pieces with at least one bud each
Let cut pieces dry for 1 to 2 days
Prepare loose, rich, well-draining soil
Mix in compost or aged manure
Select a warm, shaded or partly shaded location
Plant rhizomes 2 to 4 inches deep
Place pieces 8 to 12 inches apart
Position buds facing upward
Water lightly after planting
Keep soil consistently moist, not soggy
Mulch to retain moisture and suppress weeds
