Choose a pot only 1–2 inches larger than the current one
Use a pot with drainage holes
Use a well-draining cactus or succulent potting mix
Water the plant lightly a day or two before repotting
Gently remove the Christmas cactus from its current pot
Loosen the roots carefully
Remove any dead, mushy, or damaged roots
Place a small amount of fresh potting mix in the new pot
Set the plant at the same depth it was growing before
Fill in around the roots with fresh mix
Lightly firm the soil without packing it down
Water sparingly after repotting
Place the plant in bright, indirect light
Avoid fertilizing for a few weeks after repotting
Repot after flowering or when the plant becomes rootbound
