How To Plant Figs?

Choose a sunny location with well-drained soil

Test the soil pH and aim for slightly acidic to neutral

Plant in spring or early fall

Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and as deep as the root ball

Loosen the roots if the plant is root-bound

Place the fig tree in the hole at the same depth it was growing in the container

Backfill with soil and gently firm it around the roots

Water thoroughly after planting

Mulch around the base, keeping mulch away from the trunk

Space fig trees far enough apart for mature growth

Water regularly during the first growing season

Prune lightly after planting if needed

Protect young trees from frost in cold climates

Fertilize only after the tree is established

Monitor for pests and diseases

Harvest figs when they soften and droop slightly
