Choose a pot with drainage holes
Select potting soil made for containers
Pick flowers suited to your sunlight conditions
Fill the pot with soil, leaving space at the top
Remove the flower from its nursery container
Loosen the roots gently if they are compacted
Place the flower in the pot at the same depth it was growing before
Add soil around the roots and press lightly
Water the pot thoroughly after planting
Place the pot in the proper light location
Water when the top inch of soil feels dry
Remove dead flowers and leaves regularly
Fertilize as needed during the growing season
