Choose a sunny location with at least 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight
Prepare well-draining soil and remove weeds, rocks, and debris
Loosen the soil to a depth of about 6 to 12 inches
Mix in compost if the soil is poor
Sow zinnia seeds directly outdoors after the last frost
Plant seeds about 1/4 inch deep
Space seeds according to the variety, usually 6 to 18 inches apart
Cover seeds lightly with soil
Water gently after planting
