How To Play Commander?

Choose a legendary creature as your commander

Build a 100-card deck around that commander

Use only cards within your commander’s color identity

Start with 40 life in multiplayer or 30 life in 1v1 if your group uses that rule

Put your commander in the command zone before the game starts

Draw an opening hand of seven cards

Take turns in clockwise order

On your turn, untap, upkeep, draw, main phase, combat, second main phase, and end step

Play one land per turn

Cast spells by paying their mana costs

Attack opponents with creatures during combat

Reduce opponents’ life totals to 0 to eliminate them

Win by being the last player remaining

Cast your commander from the command zone

Pay an additional 2 generic mana each time you cast your commander from the command zone after the first time

Return your commander to the command zone instead of the graveyard, hand, exile, or library if you choose

Follow the ban list and other table rules

Resolve effects and priority in turn order

Use commander damage if your group plays with that rule

Track commander tax each time your commander is recast

Shuffle your deck whenever instructed

Keep the game state clear and visible to all players
