Use a standard 52-card deck
Deal all cards evenly to all players
Determine the first player, usually the one with the 3 of clubs or the lowest card
The first player plays one or more cards of the same rank
The next player must play the same number of cards of a higher rank or pass
Continue clockwise around the table
If all other players pass, the last player to play starts a new round
A player may play a single card, a pair, three of a kind, or four of a kind if matching the previous play size
Aces are usually high, but house rules may vary
Twos are often the highest card and can beat any single card, depending on house rules
If a player cannot or does not want to play, they pass
The round ends when everyone passes except one player
The game continues until one player runs out of cards
The first player to finish becomes the President
The second player to finish becomes the Vice President
The last player to finish becomes the Asshole or Scum
In the next round, the President gets the best cards from the Asshole
The Asshole gives their best cards to the President
Other players may also exchange cards based on their finishing positions, if using that rule
The President usually starts the next round
Repeat rounds until the group decides to stop
