Use a standard 52-card deck
Remove jokers
Deal 13 cards to each player
Set aside the remaining 26 cards as a draw pile, or deal all cards into two face-down stock piles if preferred
Choose a dealer
The non-dealer can bid first
Each player bids the number of tricks they think they will win
Spades are always trump
The player to the dealer’s left leads the first trick
Follow suit if possible
If you cannot follow suit, you may play any card, including a spade
Spades cannot be led until they are broken unless a player has only spades left
The highest card of the led suit wins the trick unless a spade is played
The highest spade played wins the trick
The winner of each trick leads the next trick
Keep playing until all cards are used
Score 10 points for each trick bid and made
Score 1 point for each extra trick taken over the bid
Lose 10 points for each trick bid not taken
Keep a running total score over multiple hands
Alternate the dealer each round
If using a draw pile, draw back up after each trick only if you agree on that house rule before starting
If using no draw pile, play with the dealt hands only
Agree on any house rules before the game starts
